Vanuatu Election Day Not Yet Public Holiday

(Posted on Friday, August 28, 2009)

Source: Vanuatu Daily Post (Port Vila)

As of yet, there has not been any announcement of a one-off electoral public holiday on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, on the date of the upcoming presidential election.

However, following last week's nomination for a second term of Vanuatu’s outgoing President Kalkot Mataskelekele, we expect him (or rather Vanuatu's Principal Electoral Officer, Martin Tete) to declare election day a public holiday as was done last year for the legislative elections (01-Sep-2008).
