Zambian President, Rupiah Banda, said that the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation should be retained in the Republican Constitution and that December 29th should be marked as an annual public holiday.

President Banda's call was made on Tuesday, on the 18th anniversary of the December 29, 1991, date when Zambia's second Republican president, Frederick Chiluba, declared Zambia a Christian nation.
