The Attorney General of Australia's State of Queensland, Cameron Dick, has announced that, following his intervention, Queensland will have two days off work in lieu of the Christmas and Boxing Day public holidays, which fall on a weekend in 2010.
An earlier announcement by the Brisbane Times, and carried by most other Australian news media, had reported that the Government of Queensland had decided to only compensate one of the 2 Christmas public holidays falling on a weekend in 2010.
A similar conjunction of the weekend and Christmas public holidays occurred a few years ago (14-Mar-2004).
