Bolivia Rules Out May 1st Day In Lieu Public Holiday

Bolivia's Minister of Labour, Carmen Trujillo, has denied rumours that Monday, May 3, 2010, would be an official public holiday to compensate the fact that May 1st falls on a Saturday this year.

The rumours had been fueled by the recollections that, in 2004, under similar circumstances, the Government of Bolivia issued Decreto Supremo 27468 making Monday, May 3, 2004, a one-off public holiday (29-Apr-2004).

The minister did remind all present that 2 new public holidays were declared in less than a year; the Indigenous New Year public holiday (18-Jun-2009) and the "Día de la Fundación del Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia" public holiday (20-Jan-2010).
