Germany Rejects Additional Regional Public Holidays

(Posted on Wednesday, August 18, 2010)

Source: Hessische Niedersächsische Allgemeine (Hannover)

The recent bill, introduced by a coalition led by Die Linke, to add 2 regional public holidays in Niedersachsen has been rejected in that Land's parliament.

The 2 proposed public holidays, Internationale Frauentag (International Women's Day on March 8) and Weltkindertag (International Day of the Child on September 20) both fall on a Monday in 2011, and these were meant to compensate the fact that both May 1st and Christmas will fall on a Sunday next year.
