Guyana's Ministry of Home Affairs has released a communique clarifying the consequences of the upcoming public holidays of Christmas, Boxing Day and the New Year, all falling on a weekend.
As per the communique, signed by Guyana's Minister of Home Affairs, Clement J. Rohee, "As Boxing Day falls on a Sunday, the following day Monday, December 27, 2010 is declared a public holiday.".
However, no such additional public holiday will be declared for either Christmas Day 2010 or New Year's Day 2011, which both fall on a Saturday, as the "The Public Holidays Act" (Cap 19:07) clearly states that only public holidays falling on a Sunday give cause to a day in lieu additional public holiday.
