Honduras Declares Half-Day Public Sector Holiday

(Posted on Tuesday, February 2, 2010)

Honduras' Minister of the Interior and of Justice, Africa Madrid, has announced an executive decree making the afternoon of Wednesday, February 3, 2010, a one-off public sector holiday, on the occasion of the "Day of the Virgin of Suyapa", the patron saint of Honduras.

As such, the public sector will stop working at noon, local time, tomorrow, Wednesday, February 3, 2010.

As was the case on similar occasions (24-Jan-2010), the official text of the decree limits this public holiday to the public sector, but it exhorts the private sector, at least in the capital city, to do the same "la excitativa también se extiende para los demás poderes del Estado y al sector privado para que hagan lo mismo para con sus empleados que laboran en la capital".
