The head of the Laos government secretariat, Cheuang Sombounkhan, has announced that Monday January 3, 2011, would be a public holiday in compensation for the annual New Year's Day holiday which falls on Saturday in 2010.

As per the Labour Law No: 02, dated March 14, 1994, and Article 28 of the Prime Ministerial Decree No: 98, dated December 14, 1995, days in lieu are supposed to be a staple of the public holidays calendar of Laos, but the government still feels compelled to issue statements such as the aforementioned, at regular intervals (08-Apr-2008).
