Lybia Announces Ramadan Public Holidays

(Posted on Monday, August 9, 2010)

The Libyan Center for Remote Sensing and Space Science (LCRSSS) has announced that, in Libya, according to astronomical calculations, the upcoming Muslim month of Ramadan will start on Wednesday, August 11, 2010.

Contrary to what was done in previous years (02-Aug-2009), the aforementioned announcement also stated that the month of Ramadan would end on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, meaning that the eid al-Fitr public holiday would be on Thursday, September 9, 2010.

This means that Libya will be one of the first countries to observe the feast corresponding to the end of Ramadan, as usual (02-Aug-2009, 26-Sep-2008, 11-Oct-2007, and 20-Oct-2006).

However, the currently announced date is not as early as was announced, last January, by the Libyan government,as part of its published expected dates of 2010 public holidays in Libya (03-Jan-2010).
