Madagascar Announces March 16 Parliamentary Elections

(Posted on Monday, December 20, 2010)

Source: Filankevitry ny Governemanta (Mahazoarivo)

The government of Madagascar has set the date for the upcoming parliamentary elections to Wednesday, March 16, 2011.

We expect to be declared a one-off public holiday as this year's Décret fixant la liste des jours fériés au titre de l'année 2010 (20-Jan-2010) clearly stipulates that the dates of elections shall also be public holidays (sont déclarées également fériées, chômées et payées les journées auxquelles se tiendront des élections) and this has been extended recently to cover the date of the recent referendum on the new constitution (18-Nov-2010) and the date of the promulgation of the new constitution (10-Dec-2010).
