The Office of the President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, has released a press communique indicating that Monday, March 1, 2010, had been declared a one-off public holiday.
The reason given for that the declaration of a March 1st public holiday is that that date corresponds to the first sitting of the People’s Majlis (Parliament) for the year 2010.
Last year, the recently-elected President Nasheed had declared a similar public holiday, on March 2, 2009, on the occasion of his presidential address to the People’s Majlis (02-Mar-2009).
Note that, according to the officially released list of 2010 public holidays in the Maldives (05-Jan-2010), Friday, February 26, 2010, will also be a public holiday, meaning that the Maldives will get a 4-day public holiday from Friday, February 26, to Monday, March 1, 2010, inclusively.
