A bill that would restore May 14 as an annual national public holiday in Paraguay, was approved at the last ordinary session of the Paraguayan Senate.
The aforementioned bill now goes to the lower house (Cámara de Diputados) for debate.
Earlier this year (13-May-2010), the Municipality of Ciudad del Este declared Friday, May 14, 2010, as a departmental public holiday (asueto distrital) on account of this year's annual, May 15, Día de la Independencia public holiday.
The aforementioned bill would also restore the February 3, San Blas (patron saint of Paraguay) public holiday, as had been often requested (19-Jan-2009 and 04-Feb-2006), since since the San Blas public holiday was dropped from the list of official public holidays in Paraguay in 1995.
