Philippines Declare August 30 A Public Holiday

Earlier this morning, Philippines' presidential spokesman, Edwin Lacierda, has announced that Monday, August 30, 2010, had been declared a non-working public holiday.

According to the aforementioned announcement, the decision to declare Monday, August 30, 2010, as a non-working public holiday, came after a presidential review of Proclamation 1841 signed by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, and which declared holidays for the year 2010 (22-Jul-2009).

Following the recent Proclamation 13 which stipulates that the upcoming public holiday marking the death anniversary of Benigno Aquino Jr would be on Saturday, August 21, 2010, rather than the previously announced date of Monday, August 23, 2010 (11-Aug-2010), there had been speculation, fueled in part by Malacañang (12-Aug-2010), that the upcoming August 30 public holiday would also be axed.
