The Qatari Emiri Diwan has declared Sunday, December 19, 2010, as a one-off public sector and financial and bank holiday.
As per the aforementioned announcement, December 19 will be holiday for ministries and other government bodies, public institutions, the Qatar Central Bank (QCB ), all Qatari banking and financial institutions that are subject to QCB supervision, the Qatar Financial Markets Authority and the Qatar Stock Exchange.
The announcement goes on to state that December 19 was declared as a public holiday since December 18, the annual Qatari National Day public holiday, falls on Saturday, which is part of the government weekend, as was done last year also (11-Dec-2009).
December 18 was made into an annual public holiday by virtue of Qatar Law No. 61 of 2007 (22-Jun-2007). In compensation for this new public holiday, beginning in 2007, September 3 was no longer a public holiday in Qatar (22-Aug-2007).
