Solomon Islands Kurukurus 2-Day Public Holidays Rumoured

(Posted on Monday, August 16, 2010)

Source: Solomon Times (Honiara)

Local media in the Solomon Islands are reporting the the caretaker Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands, Derek Sikua, has called the champion Kurukuru team to tell them that he would soon declare a 2 day public holiday to honour the team's recent win.

Though such sports-related public holidays are relatively common in the South Pacific, there are no recent examples of such public holidays having been declared in the Solomon Islands, particularly on the heels of the recent electoral public holiday declared for August 4 (28-Jul-2010).
