Swaziland Declares Monday A Public Holiday

(Posted on Saturday, January 2, 2010)

Source: The Swazi Observer (Mbabane)

Swaziland's Home Affairs Minister, Chief Mgwagwa Gamedze, has finally announced the date of the upcoming Incwala public holiday as Monday, January 4, 2010.

This announcement confirms our erstwhile estimate, and our most recent, final, confirmation of the upcoming Incwala public holiday date (31-Dec-2009). Note that the main Incwala Day will be tomorrow, Sunday, but that, as is sometimes, but not always, the case in Swaziland, a day in lieu public holiday is given on the following Monday (20-Jul-2007 and 04-Jan-2007).

Finally, due to the complex nature of the rule used to specify the date of the Incwala main day, and its related public holiday, we expect the Incwala public holiday to occur a second time this year, on Friday, December 24, 2010, as was the case three years ago (26-Dec-2007, and 04-Jan-2007).
