The UAE's Minister of Education and Chairman of the Federal Government Human Resources Authority, Humaid Mohammed Al Qattami, has announced the dates for the upcoming New Year public holiday for the UAE public sector.

As per the aforementioned circular, Saturday, January 1st, 2011, will be the official public holiday for the (Western) new year.

The circular goes on to state that, as per article 5/100 of the federal cabinet resolution no 11 of 2008, "a public holiday shall not be transferred or compensated if it falls on a public holiday or at the weekend" and that therefore an additional public holiday will not be given to compensate the fact that January 1st falls on one of the UAE's weekend days (31-May-2006).
