Vanuatu's Private Secretary to the Head of State, Rave Nigai, has announced that neither Friday, December 31, 2010, nor Monday, January 3, 2011, would be public holidays.
He went on to state that last week's declaration of Friday, December 24, 2010, as a public holiday (22-Dec-2010) was a one-off event "only because of a request from the Prime Minister so public servants could have enough time for their shopping" and not in any manner because Christmas Day 2010 fell on a Saturday.
