The government of Bangladesh has announced that Thursday, February 17, 2011, had been declared a one-off public holiday on account of the Cricket World Cup opening ceremonies on that date.
Earlier this week (25-Jan-2011), the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) had proposed to the government of Bangladesh that it declare one-off public holidays during the upcoming World Cup "to ensure smooth traffic movement".
The first proposed one-off public holiday was the date of the Cricket World Cup opening ceremonies, Thursday, February 17, 2011.
But 2 other dates were also proposed, the dates of matches that are scheduled to occur on a working day (March 14 and March 23). The forementioned announcement makes no reference to the request for these 2 additional public holidays.
