The Cayman Islands government has announced that it will soon gazette an extra public holiday in June 2012 to mark the royal diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
As per the aforementioned Cabinet statement, Monday, June 4, 2012, will thus be a one-off non-working public holiday in the Cayman Islands. This follows last year's similar declaration of a one-off public holiday in the UK (27-Dec-2009), although in the UK the extra public holiday was gazetted as Tuesday, June 5, 2012.
The statement went on to point out that the annual Queen's Birthday public holiday would also be observed on Monday, June 18, 2012, as was recently announced as part of the official announcement of 2012 public holidays in the Cayman Islands (25-Jun-2011).
Currently, the following countries have declared a one-off public holiday to commemorate the royal diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne: The UK (27-Dec-2009), the Isle of Man (10-Sep-2010), and Jersey (29-Sep-2010), while Guernsey is considering it (19-Jun-2011).
