The Cayman Islands government has gazetted an extra public holiday on Monday, June 4, 2012, to mark the diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
The aforementioned announcement of a one-off public holiday on Monday, June 4, 2012, had been expected, since last month (20-Jul-2011), when the Cayman Islands government announced that it would soon gazette an extra public holiday in June 2012 to mark the royal diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
The declaration of an extra public holiday on Monday, June 4, 2012, to mark the diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, was published in the Supplement No. 1 of the Cayman Islands Government Gazette No. 18 dated 29th August, 2011, as the Public Holidays (No. 2) Order, 2011 which amends the Public Holidays Law (2007 Revision) by the insertion after paragraph 14 of the following "15. In the year 2012 only, for the purposes of the celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, 4th June shall be a Public General Holiday.".
Currently, the following countries have declared a one-off public holiday to commemorate the royal diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne: The UK (27-Dec-2009), the Isle of Man (10-Sep-2010), Guernsey (29-Jul-2011), and Jersey (29-Sep-2010). In addition, the Falkland Islands are currently considering the declaration of a one-off public holiday to mark the diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II (31-Jul-2011).
