Chile's Senate has in turn approved the recent bill to make the upcoming September 19 public holiday a compulsory non-working day (feriado irrenunciable).
The aforementioned change would essentially impact the opening of stores and shopping centres (called Malls in Chile) and was introduced a few weeks ago (01-Sep-2011) by a group of Chilean parliamentarians.
It was approved by Chile's lower house of parliament (la Cámara de Diputados) earlier this week (11-Sep-2011). It still needs to be ratified by Chile's President, but this seems a foregone conclusion as the legislation was introduced at the behest of the executive.
