El Salvador Declares March 22-23 Public Holidays

(Posted on Saturday, March 19, 2011)

Source: Asamblea Legislativa de la República de El Salvador (San Salvador)

Earlier today, El Salvador's legislative assembly approved, by a vote of 79 out of 84 deputies, a 2-day public sector holiday, on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 22 and 23, 2011, to coincide with US President Obama's visit to San Salvador.

Originally, the Salvadorean army had only requested a public sector holiday (asueto remunerado a los empleados públicos, municipales y autónomos), for reasons of security, in the "San Salvador" department where El Salvador's capital, San Salvador, is located.

But the legislative assembly decided to amend the governmental initiative by adding the department of "La Libertad" to the list of departments that will observe the one-off public holidays of Tuesday and Wednesday, March 22 and 23, 2011.
