At the last Falkland Islands General Purposes Committee of the Executive Council (Exco) meeting, the Public Diplomacy Group suggested that Monday, June 4th, 2012, be made a one-off public holiday to mark the royal diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
A similar request at an EXCO meeting last year (04-Dec-2010) led to the later declaration (02-Feb-2011) of April 29, 2011, the date of the wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton, as a one-off public holiday in the Falkland Islands.
Currently, the following countries have declared a one-off public holiday to commemorate the royal diamond jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne: The UK (27-Dec-2009), the Isle of Man (10-Sep-2010), Jersey (29-Sep-2010), the Cayman Islands (20-Jul-2011) and Guernsey (29-Jul-2011).
Note that, in some cases the additional 2012 public holiday is declared on Monday, June 4, 2012, and in other cases on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, depending if the last Monday of May is an annual public holiday.
