The President of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC) has announced yesterday, that Sunday, November 6th, 2011, would be the date of the upcoming Muslim feast of Eid Al Adha, better known in the Gambia as Tobaski.
For the third year in a row (15-Nov-2010 and 20-Nov-2009), and contrary to the year before that (04-Dec-2008), the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council is announcing a date in line with that announced by Saudi Arabia (07-Nov-2010).
Three years ago (01-Sep-2009), Gambia's President, Yaya Jammeh, and the Gambian Supreme Islamic Council (SIC), had jointly announced that from now on the dates of Muslim public holidays would be calculated in line with the Umm al-Qura calendar used by Saudi Arabia.
