Ghana Declares May 2 Public Holiday

(Posted on Thursday, April 28, 2011)

Source: Ghana News Agency (Accra)

Ghana's Minister of the Interior, Benjamin Kunbuor, announced that Monday, May 2, 2011, had been declared a day in lieu public holiday due to the annual May Day statutory public holiday falling on a Sunday in 2011.

Last year (28-Apr-2010), under similar circumstances, Ghana's President, John Evans Atta Mills, had issued an Executive Instrument declaring Monday May 3, 2010, a statutory public holiday throughout Ghana.

This type of last-minute declaration of a day in lieu pulic holiday is a regular fixture in Ghana (03-Mar-2010).
