Ghana's Minister of the Interior, Benjamin Kunbuor, confirmed that Friday July 1, 2011, would be a non-working statutory public holiday throughout the country on account of the upcoming Republic Day.
Such last-minute re-confirmations of public holidays are common in Ghana (20-May-2011).
