The Government of Kazakhstan has announced the extent of the 2011 non-working public holidays associated with the annual May 1st and May 9 non-working public holidays.

As per the aforementioned announcement, there will be a compensatory non-working public holiday on Monday, May 2, 2011, in Kazakhstan, meaning a 3-day period of public holidays from april 30 to May 2, 2011, inclusively.

This will be followed, the week after, by a period of nonworking public holidays from Saturday, May 7, until Monday, May 9, 2011, inclusively.

These announcements follow from the 2001 amended version of Kazakhstan's Labour Code and the Law on Holidays in the Republic of Kazakhstan (14-Dec-2001) which states that "the days of the national and state holidays are non-working days" and that "in case of coincidence of a day off and a holiday, a day off will be the next day following the holiday".
