Kyrgyzstan 2011 Orozo Ait Public Holiday Tomorrow

(Posted on Monday, August 29, 2011)

Source: Kabar Kyrgyz National News Agency (Bishkek)

The Ministry of Labor, Employment and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic finally announced that tomorrow, Tuesday, August 30, 2011, would be the official non-working public holiday in Kyrgyzstan on account of the upcoming Orozo Ait (End of Ramadan).

The announcement was made following a statement by the Mufti of Kyrgyzstan, Chubak azhy Zhalilov, who announced during a TV interview that the first crescent of the new Moon of the month of Shawwal had been sighted earlier this evening.

There had been some confusion about the date of the upcoming Orozo Ait (End of Ramadan). Last Monday (22-Aug-2011), the press service of the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic had announced that Wednesday, August 31, 2011, would be an official non-working public holiday in Kyrgyzstan, presumably on account of the upcoming End of Ramadan. But, the very next day (23-Aug-2011), the supreme mufti of Kyrgyzstan, Chubak azhy Zhalilov, commented on the previous day's announcement of the date of the Orozo Ait (End of Ramadan) by stating that "the date of the Orozo Ait would only be known on August 29".
