Nigeria Public Holiday On October 3

(Posted on Monday, September 26, 2011)

Nigeria's Minister of Interior, Emmanuel Ihenacho, has declared Monday, October 3, 2011, as a non-working public holiday to mark this year’s National Day which falls on a Saturday in 2011.

This announcement of a day in lieu public holiday to compensate a fixed-date public holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday is common in Nigeria (23-Apr-2011), despite the fact that articles 5a to 5d of Nigeria's Public Holidays Act go to excruciating lengths to make it crystal-clear that no day in lieu is to be given to compensate any public holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday.
