Paraguay's Senate is scheduled to vote Thursday on a modified version of the 4-day bicentennial public holidays request made earlier this month by the Comisión Nacional del Bicentenario.
Although the bicentennial commission had suggested declaring bicentennial public holidays that would run from Friday, May 13, until Monday, May 16, 2011, inclusively (13-Apr-2011), the bill that will be in front of the Senate would declare bicentennial public holidays that would run from Thursday, May 12, until Sunday, May 15, 2011, inclusively, instead.
Until last month (11-Mar-2011), the Government of Paraguay had been hesitating as to whether to declare a single public holiday, either on Friday, May 13, or Monday, May 16, 2011, to coincide with Paraguay's independence bicentennial.
