Philippines' chief of staff and media bureau chief, Ric de Guzman, has announced that Monday, August 1, 2011, the 2nd anniversary of former president Corazon Aquino, is not a non-working public holiday.
Chief of staff de Guzman was responding to reports that Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim had signed a proclamation declaring August 1, as "Corazon C. Aquino Day".
Two years ago, the Philippines' President, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (PGMA), had declared Wednesday, August 5, 2009, as a one-off special non-working public holiday, on the day of the funeral of the late former President Corazon "Cory" Aquino (02-Aug-2009).
