The Ministry of Labour and Public Service of the Republic of South Sudan, through its undersecretary, Rebecca Joshua Okwaci, announced that Saturday, July 30, 2011, had been declared as a non-working public holiday marking Heroes' Day.
The aforementioned date of July 30 was announced as a new non-working public holiday in entire southern Sudan in 2007 (31-Jul-2007) and became effective the year after (30-Jul-2008).
After years of de facto independence, South Sudan became an internationally-recognized independent state earlier this month (04-Jul-2011) following a referendum at the beginning of this year (08-Jan-2011).
