A member of the Swiss Parliament, Ricardo Lumengo, has announced he wants to introduce legislation to create a new annual non-working national public holiday to thank foreigners for their contribution to Switzerland.
As per the details of the proposed legislation released so far, this new national public holiday would be enshrined into the Swiss Constitution, as is the August 1st National Day public holiday. This would mean a national referendum.
