The UAE's Labour Minister, Saqr Ghobash Saeed Ghobashi, has announced that Sunday, January 1st, 2012, would be a non-working public holiday for the private sector in the United Arab Emirates.
According to a separate circular issued by the UAE's Minister of Education and Chairman of the Federal Government Human Resources Authority, Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Quttami, work in federal bodies and the public sector in general will resume on January 2, 2012.
The UAE Central Bank also announced January 1 as an official holiday for banks.
Finally, the UAE's Securities and Commodities Authority issued a press release announcing that the UAE financial markets would remain closed on Sunday, January 1, 2012, in celebration of the Western New Year.
