The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, has signed the Resolution "On moving day off from Saturday, 31 December 2011, to Monday, 2 January 2012", which declares Monday, January 2, 2012, as a one-off non-working public holiday in Uzbekistan.
As usual in such cases of declaring one-off non-working public holidays in Uzbekistan (25-Aug-2011, 01-Mar-2011, 25-Nov-2009, 25-Dec-2008, 25-Dec-2007, 01-May-2006, 28-Dec-2005 and 05-Dec-2005), the aforementioned non-working public holiday is to be compensated by having Satuday, December 31, 2011, declared a regular working day in Uzbekistan.
The oddity about the aforementioned announcement is that it does not create a bridge holiday; it simply moves that Saturday/Sunday public holidays to Sunday/Monday.
According the the presidential press release, the resolution was adopted "to create favourable conditions for rest of population in connection with celebrations of New Year".
