The government of Angola has announced that Friday, August 31, 2012, had been declared a one-off public holiday (tolerância de ponto) on account of the upcoming general elections that will be held on that date.
The aforementioned declaration of Friday, August 31, 2012, had been declared a one-off public holiday is based on the Lei n.º 36/11 (Lei Orgânica sobre as Eleições Gerais) gazetted in December 2011, and which states in its Article 18 that the date of general elections, if they are held on an otherwise regular workday, must be declared public holidays (Deve ser decretada tolerância de ponto para o dia da votação quando este for um dia normal de trabalho).
