The Fiji Governing Cabinet has approved the list of the dates of official non-working public holidays in Fiji for the upcoming calendar year 2013, following a submission by Fiji's Minister for Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment, Jone Usamate.
Of note, after years of talks on the matter (06-Jan-2002), the Fiji Government has finally removed the Queen’s Birthday annual public holiday from the 2013 list of official public holiday in Fiji.
This reduction in the number of Fiji's official public holidays follows the 2010 cancellation of the National Youth Day and Ratu Sukuna Day public holidays (21-Mar-2010 and 24-May-2010) which itself followed the 2003 cancellation of the Fiji public holiday for Prince Charles' Birthday (11-Jun-2003).
