The Fijian Teachers Association has requested that the government of Fiji reinstate the Ratu Sukuna Day and Queen's Birthday public holidays, which were dropped from the list of official Fijian public holidays 2 years ago and earlier this year, respectively.
Two years ago (25-May-2010 and 21-Mar-2010), Fiji's Cabinet had decided to amend the "Employment Relations Promulgation Act" and thus remove 2 annual public holidays from the list of official annual public holidays in Fiji, one of these being the public holiday commemorating the Anniversary of Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna's Death.
Then, last month (01-Aug-2012), after years of talks on the matter (06-Jan-2002), the Fiji Government has finally removed the Queen’s Birthday annual public holiday from the 2013 list of official public holiday in Fiji.
