Ghana's Minister of the Interior, William K. Aboah, has announced that Sunday, August 19, 2012, had been declared as the date of the 2012 Eid-Ul-Fitr (End of Ramadan) public holiday in Ghana.
In his aforementioned announcement, however, the Minister of the Interior added that, in view of the fact that August 19 fell on a Sunday, the President of Ghana had issued an Executive Instrument declaring Monday, August 20, 2012, as an additional non-working public holiday in Ghana.
In the past, except for last year (26-Aug-2011), Ghana had either declared Muslim public holidays early (25-Sep-2008 and 15-Dec-2007) as do Nigeria and Libya, or on a more middle-of-the-road date that follows the Saudi Arabian announcements (07-Sep-2010, 15-Sep-2009, 03-Dec-2008 and 10-Oct-2007).
The aforementioned declaration of Sunday, August 19, 2012, as the date of the 2012 Eid-Ul-Fitr (End of Ramadan) public holiday in Ghana is in line with past announcements.
