(Posted on Wednesday, July 25, 2012)

The Office of Communication of the Presidency of Haiti has announced that Haiti's President, Michel Martelly, had issued an Executive Order declaring Monday and Tuesday, July 30-31, 2012, as additional one-off non-working public holidays to coincide with the upcoming Carnaval des Fleurs.

As per the aforementioned Executive Order, the public holiday of Monday, July 30, 2012, will begin at 12:00 noon, while the public holiday of Tuesday, July 31, 2012, will be a full-day non-working public holiday for all sectors of the Haitian economy (jours fériés et chômés pour les services publics, les écoles, le commerce et l’industrie).

It is unclear if this new Carnival is meant to replace the traditional one early in the year (15-Feb-2012).
