The government of Indonesia has issued a decree (Surat Keputusan Bersama (SKB) tentang Hari Libur Nasional dan Cuti Bersama tahun 2013) designating public holidays and collective leave days for the calendar year 2013, for both the private and public sectors.
As was the case last year (14-Jul-2011), the aforementioned decree from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration, and the Ministry of Administrative Reform, designates 5 additional days of joint leave (Cuti Bersama) in addition to the annual public holidays (Hari Libur Nasional).
The Cuti Bersama were introduced after the 2002 Bali bombings (07-Nov-2002) to promote internal tourism as a means to compensate diminishing foreign tourism. The number of these additional public holidays rose from 3 in 2002 to 6 in 2008 (31-May-2007), but then later in 2008, the number of these was sharply reduced (05-Feb-2008), while subsequent years' announcements (15-Jun-2010, 14-Jul-2011 and 01-Feb-2012 ) brought the total of Cuti Bersama close to the pre-2008 counts.
