The Iraqi Government has ordered the halting of office work in public institutions and declared tomorrow, Thursday, July 26, 2012, as a one-off non-working public holiday due to current and forecast high temperatures.
According to the Iraqi Public Commission for Meteorology and Quake Monitoring, temperatures in some Iraqi cities have recently exceeded 50 °C.
This is the second year (01-Aug-2011) that such weather related public holidays are declared in Iraq, but neighboring Iran regularly declares weather and pollution-related public holidays (29-Nov-2010, 22-Nov-2010 and 07-Jul-2009).
