The Chief Minister of the government of Malaysia's State of Kelantan, Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, has declared Sunday, October 21, 2012, as another one-off state public holiday in conjunction with next Saturday's Malaysian Cup final between Kelantan and Armed Forces.
Football and sports-related state public holidays are not uncommon in Malaysia (18-Jul-2012, 14-May-2012, 21-Nov-2011, 13-Jun-2011, 11-Jun-2011, 30-Dec-2010, 29-Dec-2010, 30-Oct-2010, 04-Nov-2009, ...). Note that the aforementioned October 21, 2012, one-off state public holiday is on the day after the FA Cup Final, "to ensure a safe journey for supporters returning to the state after the game".
The reason for the need to declare a Sunday, non-working, public holiday, is that in 3 of Malaysia's States (Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu), the weekly day of rest is Friday, and that, as such, Sundays are regular working days (21-Jun-2005).
