Nepalese 2012-2013 Public Holidays Gazetted

The government of Nepal has finally gazetted the list of official non-working public holidays in Nepal for the Nepalese year 2069 (April 2012-April 2013).

The aforementioned publication in the Nepal Gazettte follows the previously announced (30-Jan-2012) list of official non-working public holidays in Nepal for the Nepalese year 2069, with the exception of the Loktantra Diwas public holiday, introduced 5 years ago (16-Apr-2007), and which does not appear in the gazetted list of official non-working public holidays in Nepal for the Nepalese year 2069 (April 2012-April 2013).

However, when contacted, the Nepalese Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed that the Loktantra Diwas public holiday was included in the list of 2012-2013 public holidays and points to a possible "printing error".

Finally, the Nepalese media also report on the progress of the committee, formed 3 years ago (14-Jan-2009), under the coordination of the joint-secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Bhola Shiwakoti, "to review and systematize the declaration and duration of public holidays in Nepal". Apparently draft parts of the committee's report were leaked as trial ballons and the response was not positive (ie. nothing is likely to come out of this committee's recommendations).
