Late last night, the head of Pakistan's Ruyat-e-Hilal (moon sighting) committee, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, has announced that the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal would begin on January 25, meaning that, contrary to previous announcements, the upcoming birthday of the Prophet would be on Sunday, February 5, 2012.
This represents a move by one day of the upcoming birthday of the Prophet non-working public holiday, as was announced, earlier this month (15-Jan-2012), by Pakistan's Ministry of Interior, in consultation with Karachi's Meteorological Department, as part of the official list of expected dates for public and optional holidays for the calendar year 2012.
