Following yesterday's declarations of Saturday, February 4, 2012, as a one-off regional public holiday in four Provinces, many provinces of Pakistan, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has announced that he had declared an additional nationwide public holiday on Saturday, February 4, 2012 (Rabi-ul-Awwal 11).
The aforementioned date of Saturday, February 4, 2012, corresponds to the date initially announced for the Prophet's Birthday non-working public holiday in early January (15-Jan-2012), by Pakistan's Ministry of Interior, in consultation with Karachi's Meteorological Department, as part of the official list of expected dates for public and optional holidays for the calendar year 2012.
However, last week (25-Jan-2012), following an announcement by the head of Pakistan's Ruyat-e-Hilal (moon sighting) committee, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, the date of the upcoming birthday of the Prophet non-working public holiday, was moved to Sunday, February 5, 2012, promptimg the governments of the Provinces of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pujab, and Sindh, to declare Saturday, February 4, 2012, as a one-off regional public holiday (02-Feb-2012).
