The Philippines House of Representatives has approved, on third and final reading, the House Bill 1072, which declares Chinese New Year (CNY) as a special annual non-working public holiday in the Philippines.
Chinese New Year was included in the Proclamation No. 295, s. 2011 (01-Dec-2011) which listed the offical non-working public holidays in the Philippines for 2012, as a manifestation of our solidarity with our Chinese Filipino brethren who have been part of our lives in many respects as a country and as a people, but the annual status of CNY as an annual Philippines public holiday was still in question,
The declaration of CNY as an annual Philippines public holiday has been the subject of many requests, promised and bills over the years (19-Jan-2011, 12-Jan-2011, 03-Jan-2011, 28-Jan-2010, 22-Aug-2009, 14-May-2009, and 14-Mar-2009).
