Puerto Rico's Governor, Luis G. Fortuño Burset, has declared Thursday, August 23, 2012, as yet another one-off non-working public sector holiday, on account of the current tropical storm Isaac.
The aforementioned announcement is contained in the Memorando Especial Núm. 20-2012 announced to the media by the Oficina de Capacitación y Asesoramiento en Asuntos Laborales y de Administración de Recursos Humanos (OCALARH).
It states that non-essential government workers, in addition to being off work on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 (en el Memorando Especial Núm. 18-2012, el Gobernador de Puerto Rico, Hon. Luis G. Fortuño Burset, autorizó el cese de labores el miércoles, 22 de agosto de 2012), as was announced last weekend (20-Aug-2012), will also be off work on Thursday, August 23, 2012 (debido a la trayectoria que presentó este fenómeno atmosférico, el Gobernador concedió a los empleados públicos el jueves, 23 de agosto de 2012, libre sin cargo a licencia alguna).
Last year (23-Aug-2011, 22-Aug-2011, 21-Aug-2011, 02-Aug-2011 and 31-Jul-2011), 5 days had been declared a one-off non-working public sector holidays on account of tropical storms Irene and Emily. In previous years (30-Aug-2010 and 03-Sep-2009) these one-off public sector holidays were usually limited to the afternoon.
