The Commission on Suriname National Holidays established by the government of Suriname to reduce the number of annual public holidays in Suriname has reached a dead-end in its discussions with religious groups, none of which seems ready to abandon one of its religious public holidays.
Recall that, in recent years, the government of Suriname has added a slate of new religious and ethnic public holidays (27-Jan-2011, 24-Nov-2010, 13-Nov-2010, 30-Oct-2010, and 08-Aug-2007).
The current talks between the Commission on Suriname National Holidays and various religious groups are scheduled to end on March 21, 2012.
